What is your reaction to what you heard this weekend? Do you have any questions? (Note: I (Stan) will not be able to check this until later in the evening on Sunday. But, from that point until the end of the week, I'm looking forward to dialogue...and journeying with you on this topic.)
Make sure you check out the links (to the right) for more information on this topic!

Thanks Stan and Dave for the great message this week. This is the first time my wife and I were able to hear Stan, and it was a treat, but really the message was the treat. Stan, your story about your encounter with neighbor greed resonated very strongly with some of my recent experiences, and my wife felt almost sick as Dave was reading off the $$ on how much it would take to solve some world problems.
I know that it's not as easy as just giving X billion dollars to Y organization, and bam hunger is gone, but that's not what's most important. What really matters is if I'm willing to part with my stuff so that others could live. I'm reminded of how the early church was described in Acts 2. They sold their possession and gave as others had need.
Thank you for the word.
Mark...
Thanks for the encouragement. God bless you as you serve Him this Holiday Season!
Merry Christmas.
It was an excellent message. More people should remember the definition of compassion through-out the year. Continue to bless others.
I have been haunted all week by the staggering statistics based on black friday. Rob Bell shared these last year in a message series in December called Blessed are the Peacemakers. Anyway, it was provoking and undoing. I can't stop thinking about it and am making some changes already.
Thanks for the courage to share.
Can you imagine if everyone at Northview gave up just ONE Christmas present to give a gift to someone else?
What if only 10% of regular weekend attendees did this? That would be about 300 people, I think. Imagine the difference we could make.
My wife and I always get some cash for Christmas from relatives. This year we're going to bless someone else with that money.
I was excited to see Horizon International being promoted.
I like what Titus 3:14 says:
Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order that they may provide for daily necessities and not live unproductive lives.
Who else out there will take this challenge that Stan and Dave presented?
Dude, I am with you.
I agree with all that you guys said.
Christmas isn't about getting, it is about giving. "For God so loved...He GAVE..."
And the best stuff is those things that money cannot buy.
Amen to Bill Wolfe and what he proposes on his blog.
Well done, Stan and Dave. Well done.
Blessings.
Hey, I just wanted to post an update. After I made my comment on Wednesday on this blog, I felt God telling me to kick this challenge up a notch.
Here is the outcome of what I heard from Him: http://www.GiveUpOne.com
Just GiveUpOne. Pass It On!
• A Peanuts Theology – There is a famous Peanuts comic strip where Sally, Charlie Brown’s little sister, is seen standing inside a warm, dry house looking through a window at Snoopy, who sits on top of his dog house freezing and wet. Instead of inviting Snoopy into the house, or providing for his comfort, she says, in effect, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well” (James 2:16). Let this image keep love in action on your mind.
(James 2:16)"and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?"
Merry Christmas!
Thank you for a wonderful message and your courage to ask us(our family and congregation)the tough questions. Thank you for making your message personal and sharing your soul with us. It was very moving to hear your openness and honesty. I have made arrangements to purchase the children of Africa chickens/coups from my family members this year. God bless you and all of his children this year. Merry Christmas.
